Where’s my check? Update on the third round of stimulus checks

The $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief bill was passed by both the House and Senate and signed into law Thursday, March 11 by President Joe Biden, which means that many Americans should be receiving their $1,400 stimulus checks soon.

When can I expect my check?

Press Secretary Jen Psaki stated on Thursday that relief payments from the American Rescue Plan Act  will begin to be distributed within days, some might see their money by as early as this weekend.

People who have their direct deposit set up with the IRS, will most likely be among the first to receive the relief funds. Americans who have opted to receive their payments via physical check or a pre-paid debit card will have to wait longer for processing, printing and mailing which means funds will arrive later this month or the next.

Who’s eligible?

To qualify, individuals must be a U.S. resident with a social security number. Green card holders and other work visas are also eligible.

How much will I get?

If you’ve already filed for 2020, the IRS will base your payment off your most recent filing. If not, it will use your 2019 filing as a qualifier for the relief funds. Individuals must have an income below $75,000 to be eligible for the full $1,400 while married couples filing jointly must have an income under $150,000 to receive the entire $2,800.
