Hughes Helps Program Recognized for Commitment to Financial Education

Hughes Helps

Hughes Federal Credit Union puts the credit union philosophy of People Helping People into real action, going beyond financial services and products, and giving back to the community it serves by providing financial education to help at every stage in life.

BadCredit.org, an expert financial resource to help Americans make successful credit decisions, recently awarded Hughes Federal Credit Union its Editor’s Choice Award™ in recognition of its Hughes Helps program and its dedication to financial literacy.

The recognition confirms Hughes’ commitment to improving the financial lives of the people it serves. Recognizing a need for financial education in classrooms, Hughes Helps partnered with Banzai, an online financial literacy program for students of all ages to help bring a financial curriculum to 15 schools in Southern Arizona—and all at no costs to the schools or teachers. These virtual exercises place students in real-life financial scenarios and gives them the ability to see the impact their decisions have on their financial future.

Hughes believes that higher education is a key component in improving the well-being of the community and each year awards five $2,000 scholarships to Tucson high school seniors who are continuing their education. Hughes is also a proud supporter of the savings to scholarship program, Earn to Learn, which empowers low- to moderate-income students in Arizona to successfully complete college through matched-savings scholarships, financial capability education and mentorships.

But Hughes’ commitment to financial education doesn’t end at the classroom. Hughes frequently holds hour-long seminars designed for adults that focus on personal finance topics like budgeting, real estate trends, identity protection, and retirement planning, reaching over 400 adults since 2017.

As a locally-owned financial institution, Hughes believes that its success lies in the success of its community. Since 1952, Hughes had always put an emphasis on the financial needs of the local community, seeking solutions and providing resources for its members and neighbors. From sponsorships to financial seminars, Hughes continues to make financial literacy a priority and through its Hughes Helps program, hopes to reach many more.
