Hughes Federal Credit Union recently received two awards from San Miguel High School’s Corporate Work Study Program (CWS) in recognition of its work with the school’s students.

Hughes earned the 15-Year Partnership Award for its long-term commitment to nurturing local youth, and the Student Choice Award, which distinguishes Hughes as the top workplace for students who engage in meaningful work, learn essential skills, and foster professional growth.

Since 2008, Hughes has been a corporate partner of San Miguel High School’s CWS program, a distinctive, nationally recognized work-study model that enrolls students from grades 9-12, providing them with real-world job experiences across various industries. This program features a four-year curriculum that focuses on building technical skills, understanding business practices, and fostering lifelong learning behaviors.

The nomination for the Student Choice Award was spearheaded by Bryan Ross, a high school senior and class president at San Miguel High School.

Ross worked with the Hughes marketing team for two years, which allowed him to acquire skills in time management, professionalism, marketing, and communications.

“Not only did I learn important skills working at Hughes, but my supervisor’s kindness toward me made me feel important,” said Ross.

“It’s been an absolute delight to mentor Bryan and see him and other students thrive through the CWS program,” said Membership & Community Engagement Manager Irlanda Cuevas, who served as Ross’ supervisor.

“They come in with fresh, eager minds and leave us with amazing ideas,” added Cuevas. “He’s made a mark here, and it’s rewarding to see him blossom from a curious student into a confident contributor. These partnerships enrich our team and help students like Bryan pave their way toward bright futures.”
